Valdez, Alaska, March 29, 2022:The Valdez Museum & Historical Archive is pleased to announce its new temporary exhibit, White Gold: A Tribute to the World Extreme Skiing Championships. It is a must-see for winter recreation enthusiasts, telling the story of Valdez’s game-changing entry into the world of winter sports. Between 1991 and 2000, the World Extreme Skiing Championships (WESC) helped to define the word “extreme” and made a name for the town as a winter destination. While the last WESC exhibit displayed in 2008, this White Gold features new artifacts, insights and personal stories that express the lasting impacts of this event.
The photo montage below is from the Museum’s WESC Collection and it offers a taste of the thrills experienced by WESC participants!
