The BLM announces public meetings on Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement for the Coastal Plain Oil and Gas Leasing Program 

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Bureau of Land Management today announced six virtual public meetings to assist in the preparation of a supplemental environmental impact statement for the Coastal Plain Oil and Gas Leasing Program.

In June 2021, Secretary’s Order 3401 called for the Department of the Interior to suspend all activities related to the implementation of the Coastal Plain Oil and Gas Leasing Program in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge pending completion of a comprehensive analysis under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). BLM began the comprehensive analysis of the potential environmental impacts of the Program on August 4, 2021, including addressing deficiencies identified in the Secretary’s Order. The public scoping period ends Oct. 4, 2021. 

The public meetings will take place on the Zoom platform (with call-in option), and are currently scheduled for the following dates and times (Alaska Daylight Time): 

  • Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. 
  • Sept. 15 at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. 
  • Sept. 16 at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m..
