The ice-dammed lake above Valdez Glacier Lake drained in its annual outburst event over the weekend, with a peak flow of 13,000 cfs at 9:45pm on Sunday, June 13th. Water levels were actively monitored during the event. While water levels in the lake and stream did rise, the outburst event this year was smaller and slower than in past years. Flooding did not occur and water levels continued to recede overnight Sunday back to normal summer time levels today. We anticipate water flow associated with the outburst caused additional movement of the ice in the lake and we continue to advise caution when recreating in the area.
