5.7 17 Miles from Cantwell Sways the Area 9:10am 4/8/21

Preliminary information from the United States Geological Survey state that the 5.7 magnitude earthquake was 27 km southeast of Cantwell, which is 323 miles from Valdez, at 9:10:18 this morning at a depth of 77.7 km. This has since been revised to 5.5 on the Richter Scale. The exact magnitude, epicenter and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours as seismologists review data and refine their calculations or as other agencies issue reports.

Valdez residents felt a prolonged sway, possibly up to thirty seconds. There was no shaking of the sort that causes things to fall off shelves, although a person who was standing or walking when the temblor occurred might have lost their balance. At the time of this post 148 I Felt It reports had been filed, primarily in the Mat-Su area.
