Even in the midst of a pandemic, the Valdez Senior Center continues serving our community. By November’s end, the center has provided 14,436 meals in 2020. While the center has had to cease congregate dining, Meals on Wheels Valdez has never stopped operating and providing freshly prepared meals to our local seniors 365 days a year. Monday through Friday, the VSC also offers grab-and-go meals for anyone in the community who would like to pick up a lunch (or two or three to share!). In preparation for Christmas and the holiday season, the VSC is offering a selection of tasty treats from tamales to desserts. The array of choices is found on their website. Orders can be placed by calling the center by December 16 and will be available for pick-up through December 23.
While many of the center’s programs and activities have been placed on hold during COVID, the VSC is providing essential rides for seniors and individuals with disabilities, one patron at a time. Through the center’s partnership with Connections to Care, the VSC is equipped to offer rides for those requiring the use of a wheelchair. Other active programs offered through the VSC include pick-up and delivery services, in-home medical care services, free use of medical equipment, and wellness calls to VSC members and Meals on Wheels Valdez recipients.

Meals on Wheels Valdez seeks to ensure no senior goes hungry in our city and they are ready to help seniors in need. As an affiliate of Meals on Wheels America, they are also participating in the 2020 Subaru Share the Love Event. Through the event, Meals on Wheels has delivered more than 2.3 million meals to America’s seniors – including seniors right here in Valdez.
