Copper Center, AK. Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve will open and maintain certain outhouses and vault toilets on or near roads and trailheads in the park. Facilities that are open will be maintained in accordance with state and local health guidance (unless otherwise posted) to reduce the transmission of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Facilities in the following locations during the time period indicated will be open to the public.
• Kennecott Mines National Historic Landmark:
o Kennecott Visitor Center (Blackburn Schoolhouse), General Store, and Root Glacier Trailhead – from May 21 through Labor Day
o Kennecott Recreation Hall – from June 1 through Labor Day
• McCarthy Road:
o Rest stops between the Kuskalana Bridge and McCarthy – from June 1 through Labor Day
• Chitina Wayside – from May 25 through Labor Day
• Nabesna Road – from June 1 through Labor Day
For all other outhouses and vault toilets, no maintenance will be provided. Visitors are strongly encouraged to bring their own personal protective equipment and hand sanitizer so that they can use those facilities in a safe manner.
Updates about park operations will be posted on www.nps.gov/wrst. Visitors can also call 907-822-5234, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm to obtain information about the park.
