Legislative Update
Valdez LIO March 17. 2020
COVID-19
On March 13, 2020, Governor Dunleavy issued the first COVID-19 related health mandate. Public schools are closed statewide through 3/30. Visitation to Alaska Pioneer Homes is limited. Read more on the health mandate. On March 16, Governor Dunleavy closed state operated libraries, archives, and museums to the public from March 17, 2020 through March 31, 2020. All public programs and events scheduled to be held within and around these facilities are suspended in this time. Staff will continue to serve the public through telephone, web, and other modes that preserve the highest degree of social distancing.
Additionally, residential school programs shall begin the process of sending students to their families and home communities. This process should be completed by March 27th.
To help decrease the spread of COVID-19, until further notice, Capitol Complex access is limited to lawmakers, staff, administration officials, and credentialed press. All LIOs are practicing social distancing by closing to in-person assistance. LIO staff are still available by phone, email and chat.
These unprecedented steps are temporary, but necessary to protect the health and safety of Alaskans and ensure the Legislature is able to finalize budgets and other important matters.
Please continue to participate in the public process by following Gavel Alaska, AKL.TV, and through written and telephone testimony.
