Upcoming Valdez Events

   A survey has gone out to [all residents of Valdez] as part of our Master Planning process. Your survey submission helps us to understand the needs of our community. This is your opportunity to be heard and to weigh in on what is important to our community.

Also, five winners will be randomly selected to each receive a $50 gift card! To enter the drawing just complete your survey!  How can you submit your survey? MAIL, DROP OFF (front desk City Hall, Civic Center, and Recreation Center) OR ONLINE: www.valdezparks.organd enter the *password provided* on your cover letter (received in the mail). ·         Parks and Rec has another Life Guard Class scheduled for February 15-23rd.  This is a phenomenal, free opportunity to become a certified lifeguard!  Learn lifesaving skills such as in-water rescues, extrication, spinal immobilization, CPR, AED, supplemental Oxygen Administration, leadership, team work, and First Aid!  Those who become certified lifeguard are encouraged to apply for lifeguard positions with the Parks & Recreation department. Sign up for the class by emailing Birish@valdezak.gov.

·         Water Aerobics is every Wednesday in February from 5:30-6:30 PM, and it’s FREE for all members!  What a great way to get active (and have some wet fun while you’re at it).  Ages 15 and over.  There is no registration required for this activity, just show up and get moving!

·         Are you a master of obscure facts?!  Check out After-Hours Family Trivia at the Rec Center every Friday night in February from 7:00-8:00 PM…  Trivia questions will be presented Jeopardy-style with chances to steal points!  This activity is free and fun for the whole family!  Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 teams. All ages welcome – Participants under 8 yrs. must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

·         East Coast Swing is happening at the Rec Center every Sunday from 7:00 – 8:30pm, starting February 9th and running through April 5th.  This is a free, drop-in activity – all ages and skill levels welcome.  Participants will enjoy instruction on partner dancing, practice a mix of swing and ballroom techniques, and will get to explore their skills during open floor time!  Annual waivers must be completed prior to or at time of participation.

·         Ever wanted to try out the art of sword-play?  Already a fencing buff, but need a partner to bout with?! Open Fencing is happening on Thursdays, February 13th, 20th, and the27th from 6:30 – 7:30pm at the Recreation Center.  This is a free, drop-in activity, open to ages 8 and up.  Annual waivers must be completed prior to or at time of participation.

·         Come and join or watch the snowmachine races at Shana Anderson Dog Park brought to you by the Valdez Snowmachine Club. Registrations begins at 12:00pm.  Races start at 1:00pm Sunday February 9th, March 1st, and March 8th.

·         The showing of  “Bad Boys For Life”  @7PM February 29, 2020 Rated R *OVER 21 ONLY* Special Show, Alcohol Served (2D)

·         BANFF Mountain Film Festival World Tour is coming to Valdez! Mark your calendars for March 4th at the Civic Center Cinema, doors will open at 5:00 PM. https://www.banffcentre.ca/
