All Public Broadcasting funds for the state were vetoed by Governor Dunleavy, twice. Our state funding is gone. If you look at the chart below, the red portion, APBC or Alaska Public Broadcasting Commission, is the amount we received last year, that we will not receive this year. The chart below it shows how we spent the monies we received last year. The lion’s share of that money goes directly to what goes on the air. The next biggest is broadcasting it. We make good use of the funds we receive.
KCHU has been on the air for nearly forty years. We’re not giving up now. We can’t. We are the sole service provider for people in certain parts of our listening area, their only source of Emergency Alerts as well as news, information and entertainment. (see a map of our broadcast area )Public Radio is IMPORTANT in Alaska. So even if you’ve never donated before, consider making a pledge this year. The money will tide us over until our federal funding becomes available, some time after September 30. For more information or to make a donation click here or visit us on Facebook
