  • Prince William Sound/Copper River Rgional Planning Team-Prince William Sound Aquaculture Corporation will meet Thursday, April 22nd, 2021 at 9:00 am via ZOOM  please contact geoff.clark@pwsac.com for zoom info.  The public is welcome.
  • The City of Valdez is aware of the great impact that businesses have endured during the COVID-19 pandemic.  In response, the City created The Mayor’s Economic Recovery Task Force.  This Task Force has created many initiatives to assist Valdez businesses through this pandemic.  As one of the considerations, the Task Force requested a basic membership to the Valdez Convention and Visitors Bureau (VCVB) be put in place for all Valdez businesses.  This basic membership will include the business name on the VCVB website.  For questions regarding this free opportunity, please contact the VCVB directly at (907) 835-2984 or Martha Barberio, Economic Development Director, City of Valdez.

  • Federal subsistence fishing in the Upper Copper River opens on May 15. This fishing opportunity is available to qualified local rural residents and a federal permit is required. Due to ongoing public health advisories and staffing delays related to Covid-19, the permitting process has been adapted to ensure the safety of permit applicants and park staff. Modifications to the permitting process vary by location. For example, in Copper Center, applicants must call ahead to request a permit (starting April 26th) and can then pick up the permit starting May 14th. For more information on specific locations, go to www.nps.gov/wrst or call (907) 822-7250. A photo ID (such as a driver’s license) and additional proof of the physical address of your primary residence is required when you come to get a permit. Documentation of physical address can include a voter registration card or a utility bill listing your physical address. 
  • PUBLIC NOTICE: Due to the recent rise in local COVID-19 cases, ALL Parks & Recreation programs have been CANCELLED and facilities will be CLOSED to the public until at least Monday, April 5.

  • Valdez City Schools-The Board of Education will be having meetings with the selected superintendent candidates on the March 29, March 31, and April 2. Each meeting will have two parts. The first part is an informal dinner, from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. in the HHES Library. The second part will be the formal interview from 7:30 p.m. until approximately 9:00 p.m. The formal interviews will also take place in the HHES Library and will be treated as an executive session.   • The City of Valdez Business Economic Recovery Grant has re-opened with a deadline of Friday, April 30th 2021. If you are interested in the possibility of receiving from $2,500 to up to $10,000 for your business and would like to apply, please visit the City of Valdez website at www.valdezak.gov/economicdevelopment for more information and the application link.  The applications are submitted directly to the Alaska Small Business Development Center (AKSBDC) for processing and scoring.   • NPS to Burn Debris Pile Near Wrangell-St. Elias Headquarters, Copper Center, AK   Copper Center, AK—Wrangell-St. Elias National Park & Preserve Fire Management staff will conduct a debris pile burn April 2nd through April 5th, if weather conditions allow. The pile is located near the park’s Headquarters & Visitor Center near Mile 106.8 on the Richardson Highway, Copper Center, AK 99573.   The two piles are approximately 40 feet, by 40 feet, by 30 feet, and consist of trees and brush not suitable for firewood. Debris was created during a fuels reduction project that will aid in wildland fire protection to increase visitor and employee safety while providing defensible space for the park’s critical infrastructure.   National Park Service Fire Management staff will be on-site to monitor the burning. Smoke is expected to be visible in the surrounding area, from the Richardson Highway and from aircraft during this time.   • Copper River School District Board of Education Regular board meeting Tuesday, April 6th, 2021.  Work session-FY22 Budget 5:00 pm, meeting starts at 6:00 pm.  The board of education will hold a virtual and telephonic meeting in the District Office Board Room in Glennallen.  Due to the Covid 19 pandemic and CDC recommendations, this meeting will not be physically open to the public.  The public is invited to listen and participate by calling (253) 215-8782 at 6:00 pm on April 6th.  Meeting ID +33 0796 1313.  Anyone can submit comments that will be read during the meeting.  Email them to nstickney@crsd.us by 4:00 pm on Monday, April 5th.  To pre-register to testify telephonically (optional) or for technical difficulties or questions, contact Naomi Stickney at 907-822-3234 Monday through Friday between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm.

  • CAll for 2022-2024 Federal Subsistence Hunting and Trapping Regulatory Proposals.  The Office of Susbsistence Management is accepting proposals through May 24, 2021 to change federal regulations for the subsitence hunting and trapping of wildlife on federal public lands.  Proposed changes are for July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2024.  Please submit information on proposed changes to harvest limits, season dates, methods and means of harvest, or customary and traditional use determinations.  Submit a separate proposal for each change you propose.  If you have questions, call 800-478-1456 or 907-786-3888 or email subsistence@fws.gov  Submit proposals, via mail or by hand to Federal Subsistence Board Office of Subsistence Management Attn: Theo Matuskowitz, 1011 E.
