Don’t miss the first round of public meetings for the Valdez Comprehensive Waterfront Master Plan that begins the week of February 25. During that week there will be a series of public workshops and open sessions will allow the public to provide input and help craft the master plans. Monday, February 25 from 6:30-8:30 PM Public Workshop #1 Learn about economic opportunities, provide input on priorities and programming for the waterfront sites. Tuesday, February 26 and Wednesday, February 27 from 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM Public Open Studio Session Drop-in session to talk with the planning team and provide additional input Thursday, February 28 from 6:30 – 8:30 PM Public Workshop #2 Provide input on the various master plans and refine programming for the waterfront sites All meetings to be held at the Valdez Convention & Civic Center The City of Valdez is developing a Comprehensive Waterfront Master Plan to examine what types of new development might occur in the future in keeping with the community character, providing the needed services and facilities, and promoting economic opportunities. Through the planning effort, the project will ensure the long-term viability of commercial fishing enterprise, commercial business, parking, infrastructure of the working waterfront, while increasing visitor traffic to the waterfront. Preserving public access to the waterfront and improving aesthetics are also components to the planning effort. Primary areas of the master planning include: •The existing Small Boat Harbor uplands; •North Harbor Drive; •New Commercial Boat Harbor Uplands; •Sea Otter Property at the end of South Harbor Drive; •The Valdez Container Terminal; and •The Old Valdez Town Site.
