2019 Fire Suppression System Property Tax Exemption Program

PUBLIC NOTICE

Fire Protection System 2019 Tax Exemption applications are now available at City Hall.

To qualify for the fire protection system tax exemption, each structure for which you are applying must contain a fire protection system approved under AS18.70.081 in operating condition, and incorporated as a fixture or part of the structure. The exemption granted by this subsection is limited to an amount equal to two percent of the value of the structure based on the assessment for 1981, if the fire protection system is a fixture of the structure on January 1, 1981; or an amount equal to two percent of the value of the structure based on the assessment of January 1, of the year immediately following the installation of the fire protection system if the fire protection system becomes a fixture of the structure after January 1, 1981.

Qualified applicants may obtain an application from City Hall or on the City’s website.

Please note, property owners must call the Valdez Fire Department at 834-3418 to schedule an inspection of the fire protection system. Inspections must be complete and approved prior to submitting your application.

Applications must be filed no later than January 15, 2019 at 5:00 p.m.
