Police, Fire and Rescue August 6-12

8/06/18

Found Property: A credit card was placed in the VPD drop box. Please call VPD to claim.

Property Theft: A report was made that the grill off of the caller’s Ford F150 truck was stolen. If you have any information, please contact VPD.

Traffic Complaint: A concerned citizen called to state that the political signs on a corner were placed in a manner that caused a traffic hazard.

Parking: ACO made contact with an individual parked on the bike path by the hatchery. The owner of the vehicle moved the vehicle off the bike path.

Fish & Game: A citizen requested assistance with a swan that appeared to be hit. The swan was just stunned and flew off on its own accord.

Trespass: VPD received a call regarding ongoing issues with a relative who is trespassed from their home.

Warrant Arrest: Marty Brown, DOB 04/27/1961, of Valdez was arrested on a Valdez Bench Warrant. Original charge Theft 4th Degree.

Bear incident: A bear was reported getting into a dumpster outside a local eatery. Officers were able to get the bear to move on and secured the dumpster.

 

8/07/18

Animal Noise: Customers from a local RV Park made several complaints to the business about a dog barking at a nearby residence. The dog was not barking when Officers arrived at the location and no one answered the door.

Fish & Game: A dead sea otter was reported in a dumpster. The Animal Control Officer is investigating.

 

 

Bear Incident: A caller reported they were having bear issues all day and the bear was trying to get into their home. VPD Officers were able to deter the bear away from the area using a less lethal round. The complainant was advised to clean up the garbage around their house.

Contact Person: Officers spoke to an individual who has ongoing issues with another individual.

Civil Dispute: An individual came to the VPD to speak to an Officer about stolen property. The Officer determined the matter to be a civil dispute.

Trespass: Officers trespassed an individual from a local residence.

Animal Neglect: VPD dispatch received a complaint of animal neglect. Information was passed onto the Animal Control Officer.

 

8/08/18

Found Property: A driver’s license belonging to Aaron D Cooper was turned in VPD.

Bear Sighting: A concerned citizen flagged down the Community Security Officer to let him know there was a bear in the area.

Arrested: James January, DOB 12/31/1984 of Valdez was arrested for Violating Conditions of Release. Mr. January remains at the Valdez Jail, pending bail.

Littering: It was reported there was a substantial amount of garbage dumped out in the Alpine Woods area. Paperwork was seized containing information including the name and address of the possible garbage owner. Investigation continues.

Property Theft: It was reported that on 7/28/18 a backpack was stolen from the Boardroom. If you have any information, please contact VPD.

Assault: A parent called to report they suspect their child was struck by their teacher.

Disturbance: An individual was given a warning for Disorderly Conduct.

Animal Impound: Two dogs were surrendered to the Animal Shelter.

 

 

Stop & FI: Another warning for Disorderly Conduct was issued to the individual mentioned above.

Suspicious Activity: A connex was found open at the Kelsey Dock. Officers secured the connex.

Noise Disturbance: A caller reported their neighbors were making a lot of noise. Officers made contact and had the two parties separate for the night.

Arrested: Kenneth Butts, DOB 07/07/1971, of Anchorage was arrested for Disorderly Conduct.

 

8/09/18

Possible Drunk Driver: VPD dispatch received a report of a possible drunk driver. Officers made contact with the suspected drunk driver to find they had no impairments.

Stop & FI: On patrol, an Officer spotted a vehicle with its door open parked at a local hotel. The Officer made contact and the owner of the vehicle was in it, just listening to music.

Bear Incident: Several bear calls were received today as it is trash day.

Animal Impound: A dog was picked up running at large and impounded. The owner of the dog was contacted.

Arrested: Monika White, DOB 12/06/1972 of Valdez was arrested for Violating Conditions of Release. Ms. White was released on bail.

Gun Shots Heard: A caller reported that people were shooting guns by the entry to the C&D pit at the dump. Officers made contact with the subjects who stated the range was too busy so that’s why they were shooting there. Officers advised they are not allowed to shoot there. The subjects departed the area.

Fish & Game: A man was reported clubbing fish and putting them into a cooler. AST was notified and responded.

 

 

 

Reckless Driving: A report of a vehicle crossing the white and yellow lines was made. Officers made contact with the driver- who was not impaired, but was a tourist observing the scenery.

Criminal Mischief: A person on a motorized stand up scooter drove through the High School gym. Another individual was waiting for them outside on a mini bike. The juvenile suspects have been identified in this incident. Thank you for those who assisted in the process of identifying the drivers via our Valdez PD Facebook page.

Stolen Bike: A white bike was reported stolen. If anyone has information on this case, please contact the VPD.

Domestic Disturbance: VPD dispatch received a call regarding a possible domestic disturbance. Arrested: Kyle D Hunt, DOB 06/03/1987 of Valdez, was arrested for Criminal Mischief 4th Degree.

 

8/10/18

Welfare Check: A concerned mother was unable to reach her son and was told that he may have been hurt. Her attempts to contact him by phone went unanswered. Officers made contact with the subject who was sleeping. He stated he would call his mother.

Disturbance: Officers were requested at a local business for a man who was angry at the business. The man was issued a warning for Disorderly Conduct.

Traffic Complaint: A caller reported they were traveling inbound and a vehicle turned left in front of them almost causing an accident. Officers made contact with the suspect driver, who took responsibility for their actions.

Found Property: Various items of property were turned in from a local business that belong to one individual. If you have missing property, please contact the VPD to claim your items.

Theft: A local business reported their package had been stolen containing roughly 200 headbands. If you have any information regarding this theft, please contact VPD.

8/11/18

Domestic Disturbance: A man and a woman, who were walking down the road, were reported to be arguing. Officers responded to the location and were unable to locate the couple.

Domestic Disturbance: Officers were requested at a local residence for two individuals arguing. Both parties agreed to separate for the night.

Criminal Mischief: Three individuals turned over a dumpster by the parkstrip.

Harassment: A warning for Harassment was issued to an individual and they were consequently trespassed from the fishing vessel in which the harassment occurred.

Possible Drunk Driver: Officers made contact with a suspected drunk driver who was negative for drugs or alcohol.

Criminal Mischief: Within the last two weeks, a GPS unit was smashed on a boat stored at the Valdez Small Boat Harbor. If you have any information, please contact the VPD.

Suspicious Person: A man with an umbrella was reported behind the Gilson Middle School looking into windows. Officers were unable to locate anyone in the area.

Bear Incident: A bear was reported knocking over a garbage can and running off a porch.

 

8/12/18

Assault: A fight was reported happening in the back of a cab. Officers responded and both parties came to an agreement and separated for the night.

Domestic Disturbance: A person reported hearing an argument between 2-3 people at a local RV park. Officers responded and were unable to find or hear anyone having an argument.

Animal Bite: An animal bite was reported and passed on to the Animal Control Officer.

 

Intoxicated Pedestrian: A man was reported drunk in the middle of the street. Officers assisted the man back to his hotel room.

Suspicious Person: VPD dispatch received a report of a man “casing” vehicles at the Small Boat Harbor and rifling through unlocked vehicles. Officers responded and were unable to find anyone matching the description given.

Criminal Mischief: A local business owner reported two of their windows were shattered with a rock. This case is currently under investigation – please contact VPD if you have any information that may assist the investigation.

Intoxicated Pedestrian: A drunk man refusing to leave a parking lot was reported. Officers made contact with the man, who stated that he was just taking a break before he walked home.
