Theft: VPD received a report of a backpack stolen from outside of Safeway. An Officer responded to investigate. Upon reviewing video surveillance, the suspect was identified. Officers contacted the individual, collected the stolen backpack, and returned it to its rightful owner. Subsequently, Marty Ray Brown, DOB 04/27/1961, of Valdez, was issued a summons for a charge of 4th degree Theft.
Animal at Large: A caller reported a Husky dog was back in his yard harassing his dog. The Animal Control Officer returned the canine to the owner and gave him a final warning regarding the dog being at large.
Possible Drunk Driver: A caller reported herself for cutting off a possible drunk driver. Responding Officers were unable to locate the vehicle in the area.
05/01
Theft – Other: Three 5 gallon buckets containing various screws, nails and other such fasteners was reported stolen from a property on Glacier Haul Road. If you have any information regarding these items, please contact the VPD.
Abandoned Vehicle: A vehicle reported as abandoned after being towed to a residential street was called in to the VPD.
Family Issues: Officers referred a case to Juvenile Justice regarding some ongoing issues between siblings.
Agency Assist: VPD Officers contacted a Valdez resident at the request of an Oregon Sheriff’s Office regarding emailed threats of bodily harm apparently triggered by ballot and voter registration mailers sent to the wrong address.
Welfare Check: Officers conducted welfare checks on an individual having some alcohol related medical issues.
05/02
Disturbance – Noise: Loud music was reported emanating from a shed on a residential property. Officers contacted the individual who turned the music off.
ATV: Officers contacted the driver of an ATV and gave her a verbal warning regarding restrictions involved with driving an ATV of public streets.
05/03
Truancy: At the request of VHS, Officers contacted 2 juveniles truant from school who were thought to be at the residence of the one whose parents were currently out of the country. One was left home sick and the other was taken to school.
Fish & Game: A coyote was reported as frequenting a residential area and the caller wanted to know if the Animal Control Officer could do anything about it.
Civil Dispute: Officers spoke with multiple claimants in regards to a civil issue stemming from disputed ownership of a local residence.
Threat: A distraught caller requested officer assistance at his residence after finding a letter that he believed was harassing in nature and hearing voices threatening him bodily harm. Officers determined the perception of danger was possibly due to stress or mental health issues and advised the individual accordingly.
Theft – Property: A complainant reported his Iphone had been stolen and this was the 2nd time it had been stolen from him. Officers determined the Iphone had passed through many hands and the complainant received the phone under questionable circumstances. Anyone with any information regarding a possibly stolen silver and black Iphone, please contact the VPD.

Civil Dispute: A claimant involved in an earlier dispute regarding estate property reported a stolen book. Officers advised the complainant that it was a civil issue.
Abandoned Vehicle: Information was requested on how to claim ownership of a supposedly abandoned vehicle. Officers advised the individual to contact the owner of the property that the vehicle was parked on.
Disorderly Conduct: The Civic Center reported a juvenile using a cell phone to record a movie despite being warned multiple times. Responding Officers did not see any acts of piracy occurring and it was determined the phone was being used to Snapchat foot photos.
Harassment: A couple requested an individual be trespassed from their residence after she entered their home uninvited. Officers issued a trespass warning to suspect individual.
05/05
ETOH Pedestrian: Officers responded to a report of a possibly intoxicated person walking in the middle of the highway headed outbound near Marks Repair and gave him a ride to his campground.
Vehicle in Ditch: Officers assisted a driver whose vehicle had left the roadway due to the hazardous road conditions. No injuries were reported.
Vehicle in Ditch: A tow truck was requested to assist with towing a vehicle out of the ditch on the Richardson Highway just past Dayville Road.
Civil Dispute: Officers mediated between 2 intoxicated males having an argument over a misplaced set of ATV keys and separated them for the rest of the afternoon
Information: Valdez Police fielded several tips involving the whereabouts of an individual identified as wanted. Subsequent investigation revealed that the individual [going by the moniker “Snow Queen”] has left the area and is not scheduled to return to Valdez until around November.
Animal – Noise: A whining and howling dog was reported making noise for the past day or so somewhere in the vicinity of N. Snowtree Drive. Responding Officers were unable to locate any noisy animal in the area.
Bear Incident: A large brown bear was reported as hanging out in the vicinity of the trail off of Homestead Road.
Disturbance – Bar: Multiple calls came into dispatch regarding a disturbance at a local bar/restaurant. Responding Officers determined the individuals instigating the disturbance had already left the area with no serious mishaps.
05/06
Open Door: Officers on patrol noticed an open door after hours at a local business. Upon investigation Officers found a cleaning crew waxing the floors.
Unattended Death: VPD was requested to do a welfare check on a local man when his friends had not heard from him in several days. The individual was found deceased in his home. Next of kin were notified.
Family Issues: Officers advised a concerned parent about options regarding their increasingly aggressive juvenile child.
Custodial Interference: A caller was advised to contact the court regarding custody issues involving two juvenile children as it was a civil matter, not criminal.
ETOH Pedestrian: A possibly intoxicated man was reported as being passed out in the street at the intersection of Egan and Meals. Responding Officers located the individual upright, mobile and not seemingly intoxicated. He admitted to consuming some alcohol, being epileptic with frequent seizures and refused all medical assistance.
