The Chugach Fat Bike Bash is a springtime celebration of bike culture in the mountains of Alaska. Events are set against the scenery that makes Valdez so memorable – mountains, glaciers, Prince William Sound. Bonus is that this year, all participants – whether you’re new to biking or a seasoned veteran – has a chance to win a brand new Rhino courtesy of our partnership with Fatback Bikes ($2000 value). Here’s how it works. Every event you enter gives you more entries into the drawing. You must register and participate in an event to be able to purchase extra drawing tickets to increase your chances of winning. 2018 SCHEDULE
FRIDAY APRIL 6
6:30 pm Community Family Bike Parade. Start/end at the harbor. Easy bike parade route. Bikes of all kinds, cyclists of all ages welcome. Show your two-wheeled spirit! Costumes encouraged. Every participant who joins this free event will get a commemorative bike reflector. There is no automatic entry into the bike giveaway however, parade participants are eligible to purchase a drawing ticket for $20. Start and end at the Fat Mermaid.
9 pm Ursa Major Harbor Race & Street Party. Harbor district. Bring night lights, glow sticks, glow paint and anything else that lights up the night. Costumes encouraged. There’ll be dancing in the street afterward with DJ Jer Bear. Leave your serious face at home and come light up the night with headlamps and decorative LED lights during this fun race on the harbor. Start and end at the Fat Mermaid.
SATURDAY, APRIL 7
9 am Revelate XC. @ Valdez Glacier Lake. Mother Nature will help determine the route but count on something scenic and fun. Race starts at 9 from Valdez Glacier Lake parking area at the end of Airport Road.
All Clinics will meet to start at the Fat Mermaid. Please show up ready ride 10 minutes before the start time. All clinics are free with All-Access Event Pass purchase, $20 for drop-ins.
1 pm – 2:30 pm Clinic: Fat Biking Fundamentals with Oona Betts, REI – Fairbanks.
2:30 – 4 pm Clinic: Bikepacking Basics with Liz Sampey

4 p.m. – 5:30 Clinic: Intro to Gravity Racing with Leigh Bowe
6:30 pm Downtown Downhill @ Dusk meet at Fat Mermaid for race instructions.
8 pm Awards, swag, silent auction and live music @ Valdez Civic Center. Bike drawing winner will be announced.
SUNDAY, APRIL 8
9 am Mineral Creek Poker Run, another one where we’ll decide the final route once we see what Mother Nature has in store for us this weekend. As the bike drawing will be held Saturday. Only advance registered All-Access Pass Holders will be given 2 drawing tickets for this event. Map to course start will be provided at registration/racer check-in.
1 pm Thompson Pass downhill exhibition, weather permitting. Location, you guessed it, determined by Ma Nature. Does not count toward drawing.
Note: this event is highly affected by the whims of Mother Nature so some events or event venues could be altered or changed during the festival. We have a reputation for having fun whether it pukes snow, blows hurricane-force winds, under bluebird skies of shimmering Northern Lights.
