Valdez, AK – Valdez Fire and Police Departments responded to reports of a collision involving two vehicles on the Richardson Highway in Keystone Canyon Thursday afternoon.
At 2:56 p.m. Thursday, Valdez Fire and Police Dispatch received a report of a two vehicle crash at approximately 14.5 mile of the Richardson Highway. Emergency responders arrived on scene at approximately 3:08 p.m. and discovered a small sport utility vehicle and a pickup truck, both with significant damage. Emergency medical technicians treated the driver and passenger of the SUV on scene for non-life threatening injuries. Both individuals were transported by ambulance to Providence Valdez Medical Center for further care. The driver of the pickup truck was treated at the scene and released. Valdez Police Department closed the Richardson Highway through Keystone Canyon for approximately one hour during emergency response. A local towing company removed both vehicles and debris from the highway. Following a preliminary investigation, it appears the SUV slid sideways while traveling along a curve in the highway. The driver side of the SUV collided with the front end of the pickup truck. The incident remains under investigation.
