On Tuesday, March 3rd, representatives of KCHU Radio, on behalf of The Big Read, presented Superintendant of Schools, Jim Nygaard with a variety of books by Jack London for the libraries at Valdez High School, Gilson Junior High School and Herman Hutchens Elementary School. The books ranged from hardcover collections and sets of individual paperbacks of London’s Alaska books and short stories to graphic novels and abridged editions of Call of the Wild suitable for elementary students. At the suggestion of Pam Verfaillie, VHS Librarian, two copies of many of the books were included to enable younger students with those with disabilities to read with an aid or partner. Verfaillie has designed a sticker for the flyleaf of each book, acknowledging the donation.Packages of books will also be sent to The Cordova Public Library, Tatitlek Community School and The Copper Center Volunteer Library in thanks for their participation in and support for The Big Read.
