The Valdez City Council may have had one of the shortest meetings ever on Monday’s meeting, getting their work done within 50 minutes. Although Council Members Fleming, Moulton and Smith were absent, the rest of the City Council was able to approve various measures on their regular agenda;
1) Approved Resolution #14-47- Authorizing the lease of the VCT Scale House to Samson Tug & Barge.
2) Approved Resolution #14-48- Naming rates and fees for use of facilities in the Valdez Small Boat Harbor and repealing resolution No. 13-62 Formerly naming such rates and fees. Essentially, approval of this resolution increases the moorage fees by 7% to support Harbor operating expenses.
“We kinda want this year to balance things out and then take a look at what fees we’ll need for the new harbor,” Port & Harbor Director Diane Kinney said.

The Valdez City Council will have a long-term plan for the Valdez Small Boat Harbor in 2015.
3) Approved Resolution #14-49-Amending the 2014 City Budget by accepting grant funds in the amount of $5, 233.03 to the Valdez Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department and authorizing its expenditure.
This resolution allowed the The City of Valdez to amend the 2014 budget in the General Fund to increase the appropriation for building and grounds maintenance in the Parks Maintenance Department in the amount of $5, 233, o3 as reimbursement for the purchase of playground surface Improvements (pea gravel), according to Valdez City Council Resolution documents.
The next Valdez City Council meeting will be held on November 25th.
